The Communication Science Student Association (HIMAKOM) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Djuanda successfully concluded a series of talk show and exhibition activities titled “Ruang Tumbuh X Digital Awareness” held in Rooms 303 and 304 of the FISIP Building on Monday (May 18, 2026).
Carrying the theme “Exploring News into Creative and Informative Works,” the event served as a collaborative platform for students to develop their creative potential while strengthening digital literacy to encourage wise and responsible media usage. The opening ceremony was marked by a ribbon-cutting procession led by the Dean of FISIP UNIDA, Rita Rahmawati, alongside faculty members and the organizing committee as a symbolic inauguration of the student art exhibition.
In her remarks, Rita Rahmawati emphasized the urgency of maintaining integrity amid rapid technological advancement and the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
“Integrity is a fundamental responsibility in every work we produce. The use of AI must be accompanied by full responsibility so that technological development does not erode those values of integrity,” she stated.
The Chairperson of HIMAKOM FISIP UNIDA, Fairuz Husna Lana, explained that the Ruang Tumbuh initiative was created as a platform for communication students to continuously grow while producing substantive works amidst the dynamics of digital technology.
“Ruang Tumbuh is here as a platform for communication students to continue developing. We hope this activity becomes an instrument for students to create meaningful and substantive works,” she explained.
The Head of the Ruang Tumbuh Organizing Committee, Revandi Tohirun, added that the program was designed as a medium for student self-actualization through various forms of creative expression.
“Ruang Tumbuh was born from the belief that every student has potential that deserves to be facilitated and expressed optimally,” he said.
In line with this, the Head of the Digital Awareness Organizing Committee, Aldila Vinka, explained the educational objectives behind the discussion sessions presented during the event.
“We presented discussions on news writing in the digital era so participants could understand methods of disseminating information in an engaging yet credible manner. Through Ruang Tumbuh, we provide a space to implement that creativity,” she stated.
The talk show session featured Social Media Editor of Metropolitan.id, Siti Zulfa Fauziah, as the main speaker. She discussed the crucial role of individuals within today’s digital information ecosystem.
“Every individual now has the capacity to become a media outlet through personal digital platforms. However, that role carries significant responsibility because every upload can shape public opinion. It is important to understand that not all information can be categorized as news,” she explained.
In addition to the educational sessions, the event was enlivened by a dramatic reading performance of “Sepotong Senja untuk Pacarku” by Angga Sentosa Wijaya, as well as the musical drama “Tempat Persinggahan” performed by Communication Science students from the Class of 2025.
The event concluded with a creatively and aesthetically curated student art exhibition. The exhibition area, complemented by a photobooth facility, successfully attracted enthusiastic participation from visitors.
One participant, Safitrianingsih, expressed appreciation for the quality of the event’s organization.
“The entire series of events, from the comprehensive talk show materials to the well-organized art performances and exhibition, demonstrated extraordinary creativity. I truly appreciate the appreciation space for student works provided by HIMAKOM,” she concluded.
Through this synergy, HIMAKOM FISIP UNIDA remains committed to enhancing students’ digital literacy while encouraging the use of digital media as a positive and responsible means of information dissemination.
