Siti Balqis Sari Manah, a student of the Communication Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Djuanda (UNIDA), won First Place at the International Essay Competition 2026, organized by the Center for Media and Sports Studies. She earned the award through her essay entitled "Media Framing of Failure and Development in Indonesian Football."
The international competition, themed "Communication, Media, and Contemporary Society," attracted participants from various universities. The winners were officially announced during the Presentation Day Final of the International Essay Competition 2026, held online on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
In her paper, Balqis examined how Indonesian media framed the national football team's failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. She also explored the extent to which the media has paid attention to the long-term development of Indonesian football. Her study offers a critical perspective on the media's role in shaping public perceptions of sports development in Indonesia.
The Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rita Rahmawati, M.Si., expressed her appreciation for Balqis's achievement. She stated that the accomplishment demonstrates the academic excellence of FISIP UNIDA students and their ability to compete internationally by producing scholarly work that is critical, relevant, and responsive to contemporary communication issues.
"We highly appreciate Balqis's hard work, dedication, and commitment in producing a high-quality academic paper. We hope this achievement will inspire other students to continue striving for excellence and bring pride to Universitas Djuanda," she said.
Reflecting on her success, Balqis expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout the process of writing her paper and presenting it during the competition.
"I am truly grateful for this achievement. I would also like to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support throughout the competition. In particular, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Head of the Communication Science Study Program for providing guidance and continuous support during the preparation of my paper. The encouragement, valuable feedback, and direction I received have motivated me to keep growing in both academic research and scientific writing," she said.
