Students from the Communication Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Djuanda (UNIDA), organized a community engagement program titled "The Power of Words: Building Confidence through Positive Communication" at SMP Negeri 1 Ciawi on Friday, June 12, 2026. The program aimed to equip students with positive communication skills as a foundation for developing self-confidence, both in the school environment and in the digital space.
The Head of the Organizing Committee, Salsabila Muthmainnah, explained that the program was designed as an interactive learning experience to help students build confidence through positive communication. According to her, the topics of positive communication, personal branding, social media ethics, and public speaking were selected because they are highly relevant to the challenges faced by teenagers in today's digital era.
"We designed this program as an interactive and enjoyable learning space where students can develop self-confidence, improve their public speaking skills, and understand the importance of positive communication and personal branding from an early age," said Salsabila.
She also expressed her hope that the program would encourage students to become more confident in expressing their ideas, develop a positive personal brand, and practice respectful and responsible communication, both at school and across digital platforms.
One of the speakers, Siti Aulia Nur Zahraa, delivered a session on Positive Communication and Personal Branding for Teenagers. During the session, students learned the importance of building a positive self-image, communicating effectively, and using social media responsibly. The presentation was also connected to the fundamental concepts of Public Relations (PR), introducing students to the role of communication in fostering positive relationships with others.
In addition to attending the presentations, students participated in several practical activities, including introducing themselves by sharing a fun fact and completing a one-minute challenge to describe an object. These activities were designed to strengthen their critical thinking, organize messages effectively, and build confidence in speaking before an audience.
The Vice Principal for Student Affairs of SMP Negeri 1 Ciawi, Pices Rahayuono, M.Pd., expressed appreciation for the students' initiative in delivering a learning program that was both relevant and beneficial. He noted that activities like this help students improve their communication skills while strengthening their self-confidence.
"I hope the program presented by the university students will help our students gain a better understanding of communication and become more confident in expressing themselves, both at school and in their daily lives," he said.
