The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Djuanda University (UNIDA) held a book review event featuring works by its faculty members as part of the celebration of UNIDA’s 39th Anniversary. The event took place at the Hall of Building C on Wednesday (April 15, 2026). It discussed two books authored by FISIP UNIDA lecturers, namely Good and Sustainable Governance and Sustainable Development Communication.
Both books are the result of academic contributions from lecturers of the Public Administration and Communication Science Study Programs at FISIP UNIDA, addressing strategic issues related to governance and sustainable development communication.
The event was attended by members of the academic community and regional government representatives, and featured speakers and discussants from among the faculty. This book review served as an academic forum to discuss ideas that are not merely theoretical but also relevant to practical implementation.
The Dean of FISIP UNIDA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hj. Rita Rahmawati, M.Si, stated that the two books represent a tangible contribution of lecturers to the development of knowledge and governance practices.
“These books discuss good governance from its background, theories, to its implementation, making them beneficial for academics, government officials, and the wider community,” she said.
She also emphasized that development communication plays a crucial role in ensuring that policies are effectively understood and accepted by the public.
Meanwhile, the Vice Rector II for Networking & International Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zahra Khusnul Lathifah, M.Pd.I., M.C.E, viewed the event as a strategic momentum to strengthen the role of higher education institutions in development.
“This is a very important moment, as these two books are expected to serve as references for government officials, regional leaders, and the public in strengthening governance and development communication,” she stated.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hj. Rita Rahmawati, M.Si added that the presence of regional officials in this event marked an initial step toward building collaboration between the university and local governments, particularly in Bogor City and Regency.
In the first session, Dr. Saprudin, M.Si, as the speaker, presented the book Good and Sustainable Governance, highlighting the importance of transparency, accountability, and the paradigm shift from good governance to sound governance that is more adaptive and collaborative. The session was moderated by Berry Sastrawan, S.Sos., M.AP, with discussions by Dr. Rusliandy, S.IP., M.E and Dr. Oetje Soebagdja, S.P., M.Si, who reinforced that good governance must be contextual to Indonesia’s conditions and supported by leadership that understands community needs.
In the second session, Prof. Dr. Agustina M. Purnomo, S.P., M.Si, as the speaker, explained that development communication must be participatory and no longer one-way. The discussion, moderated by Maria Fitriah, S.Sos., M.Si, was further enriched by Dr. H. Muhammad Luthfie, Drs., M.Si, who emphasized the importance of shared understanding between policymakers and the public, as well as Dr. Ali Alamsyah Kusumadinata, S.P., M.Si, who highlighted the roles of participation, persuasion, and public acceptance in the development communication process.
The event concluded with performances and an exhibition of innovative works by FISIP UNIDA students, showcasing the implementation and downstreaming of academic learning, while also demonstrating the continuity between faculty ideas and student creativity.
