Last Updated: 5 months ago

The Communication Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Djuanda (UNIDA), once again held the Practitioner Teaching Program through the Journalistic Language course. The activity featured Ahmad Jiddan, S.I.Kom, a journalist and videographer from Metropolitan.id, and was conducted on Thursday (December 18, 2025) in Room F.203, FISIP UNIDA.

Ahmad Jiddan, an alumnus of the Communication Science Study Program of FISIP UNIDA class of 2018, delivered material entitled “Words, News, and the Digital World.” In his presentation, he discussed journalistic practices in the digital era, ranging from the role of words in shaping news to the dynamics and challenges faced by journalists in the field.

The Head of the Communication Science Study Program of FISIP UNIDA, Drs. Undang Suryatna, M.Si, expressed his appreciation for the implementation of the activity in his opening remarks. He hoped that students would be able to absorb the material well, so they could gain a real understanding of journalistic practices, including challenges, ethics, and the realities of a journalist’s work as preparation for entering the professional world.

“The speaker is an alumnus who has directly entered the professional journalism field. We hope students can absorb the material well as preparation for facing the world of work in the future,” he said.

During the presentation session, Ahmad Jiddan emphasized the importance of mastering basic skills for aspiring journalists. According to him, self-confidence and courage are key assets, as journalists will encounter various types of sources. In addition, understanding the 5W+1H elements is fundamental in composing journalistic writing in a coherent and logical manner.

“To become a journalist, at the very least we must understand the 5W+1H so that we are able to construct good writing,” he explained.

He also shared his experiences throughout his career as a journalist and emphasized the importance of upholding professionalism in carrying out journalistic duties.

“No matter how low a journalist may be considered, when facing the president we are equal to the president, just as when facing a pedicab driver,” he stated.

In the discussion session, Ahmad Jiddan also explained the challenges of the journalistic profession in response to a question from Listya Eka Putri, a Communication Science student, regarding the most difficult experiences during his career. According to him, flexible working hours present a particular challenge.

“A journalist’s working hours are very flexible. Even at midnight, we may still be working and must always be ready in the field,” he explained.

Meanwhile, one of the FISIP UNIDA students, Khalil Alkhairi, stated that this Journalistic Language class provided a different experience.

“The Journalistic Language class felt more memorable because it was delivered directly by a journalism practitioner who is also an alumnus of FISIP,” he said.
