The Communication Science Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Djuanda University (UNIDA), held LOKO: Communication Workshop 2026 over two days, Wednesday–Thursday, 28–29 January 2026. The event took place at Al-Amaliyah Culinary Center (Warung Panjang) and featured an exhibition of students’ journalistic works presented within an open public space concept.
LOKO 2026 marked an innovative approach to academic activities by utilizing the campus culinary area as a space for exhibitions and literacy engagement. A wide range of student journalistic works was displayed, including magazines, zines, and news games, accessible to university students, school students, and the general public visiting the area. The event also involved external participants as part of efforts to strengthen cross-institutional academic and journalistic collaboration.
Representing the Dean of FISIP UNIDA, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Irma Purnamasari, S.Sos., M.Si, described LOKO 2026 as an important platform for students to develop creativity and academic responsibility. She emphasized that journalistic competence should be built comprehensively through hands-on practice grounded in ethical standards and accuracy of information.
“Journalistic language must be constructed in accordance with established principles and supported by accountable information. Hopefully, this activity will generate journalistic works that are beneficial for both students and the wider community,” she stated.
On the same occasion, the Chairman of YPPMWA, Ir. H. Iskandar Zulkarnaen, explained that the Warung Panjang area has been revitalized since 2016–2017 as part of efforts to create a friendly and inclusive campus environment. The area was designed to accommodate culinary activities while also supporting academic events and discussions.
“Looking ahead, this area is envisioned as a space for the exchange of ideas. Currently, Warung Panjang has transformed into the Al-Amaliyah Food Center and is undergoing the halal certification process,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the LOKO 2026 Organizing Committee, Muliana Hasea Sihotang, noted that the event is an integral part of the learning process for the Journalistic Language course. She expressed appreciation for the support provided by faculty leaders, lecturers, the organizing committee, and all parties involved in the implementation of the event.
“We would like to express our gratitude for all the support we have received. We are also aware that there were limitations during the implementation of this activity, and we sincerely apologize for any shortcomings,” she said.
Enthusiasm for LOKO 2026 was also expressed by external participants. Danang, a student from Universitas Terbuka, shared that he gained new experiences and insights from the journalistic works exhibited.
“My impression is very positive. Besides seeing journalistic products, this activity provides a new perspective on student journalistic practices,” he remarked.
LOKO: Communication Workshop 2026 continued on its second day, Thursday, 29 January 2026, featuring a more dynamic and interactive exhibition format. The event served as a space for the exchange of ideas among students, the academic community, and the public visiting the Al-Amaliyah Culinary Center.
Through LOKO 2026, the Communication Science Study Program of FISIP UNIDA presented contextual learning practices by bringing student journalistic works closer to the public. The transformation of Warung Panjang into a space for literacy and creativity is expected to serve as a foundation for similar innovations within UNIDA, while reinforcing the role of students in enlivening campus public spaces through meaningful works.
