The Communication Science Student Association (HIMAKOM), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Djuanda University (UNIDA), successfully held an upgrading program themed “Graphic Design” at the Communication Laboratory on Thursday, April 30, 2026. The activity marked the second meeting organized as part of the organization’s efforts to develop members’ capacities and competencies.
The program aimed to improve members’ understanding of the importance of graphic design in the context of communication, especially in today’s digital era where visual content and fast information delivery play a significant role.
Chairperson of HIMAKOM, Fairuz Husna Lana, stated that this training activity plays an important role in supporting members’ competencies, particularly in responding to the growing communication demands in the digital era. She also emphasized the importance of members’ ability to process and deliver messages visually in a more effective manner.
“We want members to not only understand theories, but also be able to package messages visually in an engaging way,” she said.
Former HIMAKOM member, Moh Maulana Nur Ramadani, explained that graphic design serves as a communication medium to convey messages to audiences. Therefore, its success is measured not only by aesthetics, but also by how effectively the message is received.
“Graphic design is fundamentally about delivering messages. Art does not merely function as aesthetics, but also as a communication medium that allows messages to be received or even ignored by audiences,” he explained.
He also highlighted the importance of smooth color gradation so that design elements blend harmoniously, as well as the use of white space to maintain readability. According to him, attention to these technical details reflects maturity in design and becomes a key factor in producing professional and communicative works.
Head of the Information and Communication Department (INFOKOM), Mackenzie Philana Calista, as one of the participants, expressed hope that all members would understand that graphic design is not merely about attractive visuals.
“Graphic design is not only about appealing visuals, but also about how to deliver messages effectively, informatively, educationally, and entertainingly,” she said.
She also emphasized that design should be able to communicate messages effectively while simultaneously providing educational and entertaining value for audiences.
Through the implementation of this upgrading program, HIMAKOM demonstrated its commitment to building an organization that is not only active, but also capable of creating a meaningful impact for its members and the surrounding community. It is hoped that the graphic design skills learned through this activity will continue to be developed to support communication needs across various platforms in the future.
