Last Updated: 5 months ago

The persistent prevalence of stunting in communities, which affects children’s growth and development as well as the quality of human resources in the future, has encouraged students of the Communication Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Djuanda (UNIDA), to take an active role through a stunting prevention outreach program in Laladon Village, Bogor Regency, on Friday (26/12/2025).

This activity aimed to increase public awareness and understanding of the dangers of stunting and the importance of early prevention through an educational and participatory development communication approach.

The outreach program was attended by residents of Laladon Village, particularly parents, pregnant women, and Posyandu cadres. During the activity, Communication Science students of FISIP UNIDA delivered materials on the definition of stunting, contributing factors, long-term impacts on children’s physical growth and cognitive development, as well as preventive measures that can be applied within the family environment.

The materials were presented in a communicative and interactive manner to ensure they were easily understood by participants. In addition to the presentation, the activity included a discussion and question-and-answer session, providing space for residents to share questions and experiences related to nutrition issues, parenting practices, and child health challenges encountered in daily life.

The Head of the Stunting Outreach Program, Nur Fatia Ramadhan, explained that the activity was part of the implementation of students’ roles in the Development Communication course, which emphasizes direct student engagement within the community.

“We carried out this stunting outreach activity as a form of both academic and social responsibility of Communication Science students of FISIP UNIDA. Through a development communication approach, we seek to convey information about stunting in a simple and easily understood way so it can be directly applied by the community,” she explained.

She expressed hope that the outreach activity would increase public knowledge and also encourage awareness and behavioral change in efforts to prevent stunting from an early stage.

Meanwhile, the Head of the PKK Cadres of Laladon Village, Yayah Rodiah, expressed her appreciation for the initiative of the Communication Science students of FISIP UNIDA in organizing the outreach program. According to her, the activity provided tangible benefits for the community in gaining a more comprehensive understanding of stunting issues.

“This outreach is very beneficial for our residents. The information delivered is easy to understand and relevant to community needs. Hopefully, it can be applied in daily life so that stunting cases can be prevented early,” she said.

Through this activity, Communication Science students of FISIP UNIDA hope to contribute to accelerating stunting prevention efforts while strengthening the role of communication as a means of education and community empowerment. The activity is expected to help foster a healthier, smarter, and higher-quality generation in the future.
