A lecturer from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Djuanda (UNIDA), Faisal Tri Ramdani, S.Sos., M.A.P, accompanied a team of students participating in the UNIDA Impactful Students Program in Batu Nanggai, Jorong Batu Nanggai, Tanjung Raya District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra.
One of the activity series carried out was a health education program for students of SDN 15 Batu Nanggai. The activity, held on Monday (February 23, 2026), focused on strengthening health education for elementary school students through the theme “The Harmful Effects of Smoking on Health.”
As the supervising lecturer, Faisal Tri Ramdani, S.Sos., M.A.P—who also serves as the Head of the Public Administration Study Program at FISIP UNIDA—emphasized the importance of students’ roles in delivering education-based social interventions that are relevant to community needs. According to him, health education from an early age is a strategic step in building collective awareness of healthy lifestyles within the community.
“Students need to be present with contextual programs that directly address the needs of the community. Health education for elementary school children is a long-term investment in shaping a generation that is more aware of the importance of maintaining health,” he stated.
The health education program featured two students as speakers, Indrawan Setiaji and Firza Adi Pratama. Both delivered the material in a communicative and interactive manner, covering the introduction of harmful substances in cigarettes, the impact of smoking on body organs, the risks of passive smoking, and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle from an early age.
The delivery methods were designed through visual presentations, question-and-answer discussions, and educational simulations tailored to the characteristics of elementary school students. Students’ enthusiasm was evident from their active participation throughout the activity, especially during interactive sessions and simple reflections related to their surrounding environment.
