The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Djuanda University (UNIDA) discussed the shift in governance paradigms during the first session of a book review held on Wednesday (April 15, 2026) at the Hall of Building C, Djuanda University, Bogor.
The book authored by lecturers of the Public Administration Study Program, titled “Good and Sustainable Governance,” was presented by Dr. Saprudin, M.Si as the main speaker. The session was moderated by Berry Sastrawan, S.Sos., M.AP, and featured Dr. Rusliandy, S.IP., M.E and Dr. Oetje Soebagdja, S.P., M.Si as discussants.
In his presentation, Dr. Saprudin emphasized that development requires strong governance to be carried out effectively.
“Development is a dynamic process that encompasses both economic and social aspects, therefore it requires governance that prioritizes transparency and accountability,” he explained.
He also highlighted that the concept of good governance, as it has developed so far, tends to remain normative. Therefore, refinement is needed through a sound governance approach that is more holistic, adaptive, contextual, and collaborative in order to respond to increasingly complex development dynamics.
During the discussion session, Dr. Rusliandy noted that the book’s strength lies in its comprehensive approach and relevance to the Indonesian context, particularly in discussing regional autonomy and transparent financial governance. He stated that the book could serve as an important reference for both academics and government practitioners.
Meanwhile, Dr. Oetje Soebagdja emphasized that successful governance is determined not only by systems but also by the quality of leadership. According to him, leaders who understand community needs and are able to govern effectively are key factors in achieving effective governance.
The Dean of FISIP UNIDA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hj. Rita Rahmawati, M.Si, stated that this activity is part of the series of events commemorating UNIDA’s 39th Anniversary. She emphasized that the book review represents an academic contribution in strengthening the role of higher education in development.
“The study presented in this book provides a comprehensive overview of governance, from concepts to implementation, and is expected to be useful for various stakeholders,” she said in her remarks.
In the second session, the book review continued with the discussion of a work by lecturers from the Communication Science Study Program titled “Sustainable Development Communication,” which examines development processes from the perspectives of governance and communication.
This activity served as an academic dialogue platform that bridges scholarly ideas with practical needs in the field, while also strengthening synergy between higher education institutions and stakeholders in promoting more effective and sustainable development.
