Communication Science students, Faculty of Social, Political and Computer Sciences (FISIPKOM) Djuanda University (UNIDA) Bogor class of 2020 held a Journalism Mengabdi activity with the theme "Public Speaking Training and Digital Media Literacy Workshop" in Tugu Kaum Village, Cibitung Tengah Village, Tenjolaya District, Bogor Regency, Sunday (19/6/2023). Assistant lecturer Ali Alamsyah Kusumadinata said, the activity was organized as a lesson for young people to be more capable of using the media, understanding how to exchange messages and practicing public speaking skills. "Simply put, we will understand how messages are conveyed in various forms of media. In addition, the ability to speak in public is an ability that every individual must have. Preaching, speeches, guiding events, are basic things that are often done," said Dr. Ali Alamsyah Kusumadinata, Thursday (22/6/2023). In the middle of the political year, social media is flooded with information with content containing political figures and invitations to support and not support one candidate or party. In this activity, Communication Science student of Djuanda University Bogor Khonsa Khoulah delivered material on Media Literacy in the Digital Age. Through that literacy, participants in the program, who are generally teenagers and village youth, are more objective in making choices and positive attitudes towards the information they get. The second speaker, Muhamad Fatkhul Hidayat, delivered the material on Proficient Public Speaking. In his presentation, Khonsa said that media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, understand and communicate information in various forms of media in the digital era. In addition, he explained the benefits of media literacy such as saving time and money, expanding networks, obtaining information faster and learning and working more effectively. He also mentioned the link between media literacy and social media. "So, we can apply this media literacy in social media. There must be many who use Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook. Well, when we get information, we must be skillful in processing it," he explained. In addition, continued Khonsa, creating content and utilizing social media is also an example of the application of media literacy. "If there are people here who like to write, like to take pictures, like to edit, they can be published through their social media. In particular, they should have a personal blog such as wordpress or blogspot to publish these works," he added. No less interesting, the second speaker, Muhamad Fatkhul Hidayat discussed about being proficient in public speaking. He said that public speaking is a skill that can build relationships with audiences when communicating in public. "So, public speaking is not just standing in front and talking, but it must also be accompanied by the speaker's ability to build chemistry with his audience," he said. In addition to the goals and benefits of public speaking discussed, he also introduced public speaking methods that can be applied. First, impromtu, a spontaneous method of speaking in public without prior preparation of a written script. Second, manuscript, a method of speaking in public by reading out a prepared script. Third, memoriter, a method of memorizing a previously prepared script, Fourth, using notes, a method of writing down important points and outlines to be delivered. Lastly, he gave tips to support smooth public speaking. "First, we have to get to know the audies first so that we can adjust the presentation when speaking in front, master the material, arrange the important points that we will convey, prepare tools such as power points, modules, then pay attention to our appearance according to the event being held and finally don't forget to practice often so that it runs smoothly," he concluded. "This activity is exciting, we can learn to recognize the media to be utilized as well as possible and understand how to speak in public so that it looks more interesting," said Tiara, one of the participants.
