Himakom FISIPKOM UNIDA Improves Students' Public Speaking Skills with Seminar in 17th Anniversary Series

In the framework of its 17th anniversary, the Communication Science Student Association (Himakom) of the Faculty of Social, Political and Computer Sciences (FISIPKOM) of Djuanda University (UNIDA) held a Public Speaking Seminar Gana Communication Acalapati 2023 with the theme "Explore Your Skills and Show Your Quality" which was held in the UNIDA Building C Hall on Saturday, June 24, 2023. The activity was filled by Public Speaking Coach and Founder of Bravespeakers, Willy Tan and attended by UNIDA Vice Rector I, Aal Lukmanul Hakim, S.H., M.H and the ranks and representatives of UNIDA's FISIPKOM leadership. UNIDA Vice Rector I, Aal Lukmanul Hakim, S.H., M.H in his speech stated UNIDA's commitment to continue to encourage student activities outside of academics which lead to competence and profile of graduates, because competence and profile of graduates are the goals of every study program at UNIDA. "This activity is very good to be carried out because it supports the achievement of graduate profile competencies. Competence is what you can do after graduating from college, while the profile of graduates is what they become after graduating. Public speaking is one of the competencies that is certainly very important for every UNIDA student. Let's jointly build a superior and outstanding UNIDA because with superior study programs it encourages superior faculties and universities as well, "he said. Furthermore, Representative of UNIDA's FISIPKOM Leadership, Robby Firliandoko, S.I.Kom., M.Si in his speech congratulated Himakom on its birthday. Public speaking is very important because in its history it states that communication science begins with public speaking. "Who can and master public speaking then he can change the world. Hopefully the participants after completing this event can become good public speakers and can change the world for the better," he said. Chairman of Himakom, Muhamad Hilmi in his remarks said that this activity is one of the events of Himakom which is very important to carry out, especially the discussion in this seminar about public speaking which is a very important ability and needs to be owned by students. "It is hoped that this activity will become a forum for aspiration, creativity and a place to further educate us as students, let's work together in building civilization together," he said. On the same occasion, Public speaking Coach and Founder of Bravespeakers, Willy Tan as the speaker explained that there are many benefits gained from public speaking which include increasing self branding, gaining trust, being able to persuade and convince, being able to establish more relationships, having self value, expressing opinions, being free from problems, improving self quality, increasing career and income and increasing income. And public speaking itself is not an inborn talent, but a skill that can be trained. Therefore, everyone can become a public speaker of course by practicing and learning a lot and continuing to add flight hours or experience. "There are 4 levels of public speakers, the first level is in the level of overcoming fear and mastering yourself, the second level is the level where you can make the audience interested and enthusiastic about the topic you bring, the third level is where the public speaker can make the audience remember what you say and the fourth level is the level where you can make the audience do what you say. 3 things that must be prepared in public speaking are mental, physical and material preparation. And for 5 anti-boring tips in public speaking, namely facial expression, eye contact, body language, interaction with the audience, eliminate filler words, "he concluded.
